RAV4 noise issue

Apr 25, 2004 1 Replies

Hi Guys,

I have a 2002 RAV4 2 wheel drive. Automatic transmission. About a week ago I started to hear a sound similar to high pitched brake noise (squeal). Except I'm hearing the noise when I'm completely stoped, so I know its not the worn out brake pads.

I hear it when I stop to park or at the red signal. When I shift the gear to Neutral or Park. the sound goes away. When I put it on D or R, the sound comes back. Also when I'm moving, the sound seem to go away.

Volume of the sound varies...it's not real loud. if I roll up the window, i don't hear anything... but when I pull in to my garage, I can definately here it. Sometimes the sound goes away.

I'm starting to suspect that It might be something to do with my transmssion. the car drives great and the noise is not that loud, but it's very annoying when i'm driving with my windows roll down.

Please let me know what you guys think.

Thanks.

Agree sounds like transmission -- an 02 should still be under 3 year warranty - let the dealer diagnose and fix.
