I have a 87 4x4 witch the rear end seal is shoot. Do I have to take the chunk out to remove the axal? THANKS IF ANYONE COULD HELP paul snipped-for-privacy@alltel.net

Which seal, pinion or end of the axle seal? Pinion seal can be changed in place. The axle seals have to have the axle shafts removed (4 nuts hold each side in place) no need to remove the 3rd member. Two seals there, one in the end of the tube, one behind the wheel bearing:
