Sequoia "true" gas mileage?

Hey all!

I'm been looking into upgrading from my '96 Taco to either a 4Runner or Sequoia. Given that my kids are getting to the age I'll probably be shuttling soccer teams, etc., I'm liking the extra seating capacity of the Sequoia. However, I'm a bit nervous about the mileage -- my Taco (3.4L V6) currently averages

17mpg in town (right in line with the EPA estimate for that year). The V8 in the Sequoia is rated at 15mpg in-town, which I could handle OK. However, if it *really* is quite a bit lower than that, things could get painful.

So, all Sequoia (and Tundra / Tacoma V8) owners -- how does your in-town mileage compare to the EPA rating?

Thanks!

Andy

We have an 04 Sequoia and an 04 Tundra and live @ 5000' ASL. The Sequoia is mainly driven by the missus consisting of short trips for kid delivery/pickup and grocery runs.

Since a good percentage of that drive time is warming up the engine to operating temperature, her in town mileage is around 12.5 mpg. The "computer" averages around 1 mpg than actual. When we take it on a longer trip, it does better and gets between 15-18 mpg.

My Tundra does a bit better around town with 13.5 in winter to 14.5 in summer.

Good mileage to ya, VLJ

I seem to be getting right around 15 mpg for mixed driving in an '06 Tundra, which is the same chassis and engine I believe. I seem to get around 17 if it's strictly highway, and I don't know what I'd get strictly around town.

I have an 2001 Sequoia. I keep carefull records of fuel economy for every tank of gas. In town 14 mpg, strictly highway 15 mpg. My wife primarily drives the Sequoia but she is a bit of a lead foot. The 15 mpg on the freeway is with figured with the whole family and luggage making a 400 mile trip.

Thanks, N8
