Truck vs. car engines

All:

Seems that the EPA gas mileage in truck engines (4x4) is pretty miserable compared to cars; also the hp. For example, the 3.3, 3.4 L v6 in either the Tacoma or Frontier is about 180/190 (16/20 mpg), but the 3.5 L v6 in a maxima is 265 (20/28 mpg)!!! The maxima 3.5 also has more torque (about 250 vs. 200). Why would this be? Weights seem comparable; the tacoma has a 9.5 compression ratio, DOHC, IIRC. Also, in 4x4's, is the EPA test conducted purely in 4x4 mode?? What are some of the mpg's you all are getting, w/ engine size? Thanks.

the nissan has VVT (variable value timing) , molycoated internals, polished jornals, aggresive cam, factory cold air intake, better exhaust.

  1. Trucks weigh more
  2. Big boxes on wheels... not very aerodynamic.
