1301?

Correct me if I'm wrong, a 1302 is a Super, and a 1301 is a Standard, regardless of year? right? Or do I still have more to learn?

If I'm not mistaken, there was never a 1301 (some other auto maker had that model number). There is the standard 1300 and the supers 1302 and 1303. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've never heard of a 1301, and here we get bugs from all parts of the world.

1200/1300/1500 is the standard Beetle, the two types of Super Beetle were called 1302 and 1303. 1302 had the flat windscreen, 1303 the large curved one.

A "normal" 1302 or 1303 had the 1300 engine, but if it was a 1302S or

1303S then it had a 1600 engine.

1301 wasn't used, since there was already a 1301 model in the Simca car range.

The S also meant that it had disc brakes if I am not mistaken. The whole 1302,

1303 badging was a european thing I believe. Jeremie 1972 SB

S = 1600dp and front discs.

No S = 1300dp and drums all around.

Err.. not quite. It's simply called a beetle. or Bug. Or something.

But "Standard" is a term used of low trim models, as opposed to the "flashier" looking (Chrome trim, better interior etc.) "export" model.

Someone else may remember these details better.

Yup!

You also had the 1300S, or as it was alternatively badged, the 'GT Beetle' from 1972. A standard model available in only in bright Green, Yellow or Red, it came with a factory 1600, disc brakes, sports wheels and fancy interior. Really rare, they only made 2500. I want one!

The GT Beetle was sourced from a general special edition spec produced by VW Germany for the export markets (not USA) during the 1973 model year. These were 1300S specials that were re-badged on arrival in the UK. The 1300S was available in subsequent years (with normal paint), but by 1976 the saloon/sedan range consisted of 1200A (basic), 1200L (deluxe) & 1200LS (1600 engine). In the UK, however, the 'GT' was the only officially imported

1200/1300 model with a 1600 engine, unless you special ordered a 1300S or 1200LS.
