77 FI Bug stalls...

Drove my 77 Bug on Friday to work, no problems.



Drove home in the afternoon on highway for 15 mins, no problem. Stopped for lunch. Drove 10 minutes to a store, 10 minutes later it didn't want to start. Seemed like a fuel problem. About a 1/2 hour of fiddling, checking vac hose, connections etc. It starts. Drove about 5 minutes and while driving slowly died. Even though I was stepping on the gas, it slowly conked out. Pulled over wait 15 minutes and it starts. Drove about 10 minutes to home.



I'm thinking fuel filter needs to be changed. Can it possibly be the valve gaps or point? Is it heat related or when the engine is warmed up?



Any ideas?

Check your intake manifold rubber boots. If they are cracked, they can cause air to leak in and throw off your air & fuel mixture. When they warm up they will leak more air in.

Just an update.

I checked started components et. al. After I checked the the double relay and the other relay under the back seat behind the driver (forgot the name), it seems to have fixed the problem. I'm wondering if the contacts were sticking. The contacts looked OK, not corroded or burned.

Any thought on what happened?

This past summer, I had a similar experience with a '77 Bus. Turned out it was a crack in the solder on the double relay. I re-soldered it, problem solved.
