Bay Bus Diagonal Arm Bushings????

I planned to replace the diagonal arm bushings on my '79 bus. I've been told that it's very straightforward project - "just do it!" Figured I would have trouble getting old bushings out and more trouble getting new ones in, but don't want to completely remove the arms to do it. This means I will be working under the vehicle on my back... Decided to refer to Bentley manual and read, "If the bonded rubber bushing is worn or damaged, you must replace the entire diagonal arm since the bushing is vulcanized to the metal and cannot be replaced seperately...."

I'd appreciate any input on this - it's uncharted territory for me! Thanks. -BaH

I tried to remove those bushings twice and I failed. The last try was last night with a tool similar to the ones that Remco used with no success. I will have to disconnect the brakes and the CV joint and remove the trailing arm out of the car to have enough room to remove the bushing. Today I went to the annual inspection and passed with no issues. I only had to reset the CO :-)

I was planning on heating the end of the diagonal arm - essentially burning the rubber bushing out. I kinda hate to try that though, if the new bushings I was sold for this are actually for something else and I end up learning that after it's too late! It'd make me a bit late for work the next day!

Good for you on the inspect!
