Brake light switch test

May 01, 2004 1 Replies
67 bug...no brake lights, but turn signals and emer flashers do work.

I was trying to get some voltage readings across the terminals on the two switches on the brake lines but could get nothing.

What is the definitive test for these brake light switches? Are there any other possible trouble spots to check if it isnt the brake light switches?

thank you for your help/jc

Use your meter to measure from chassis to the switch terminals. One side of each switch should be hot with the key On. Of nothing, the fuse may be bad. Even if the fuse *looks* good, replace it and clean the fuse holder.

If you *do* have voltage on one side of each switch, measure the voltage on the other side to chassis when stepping on the brakes.
