Burned valve or head

A friend's SB had some problems which turned out to be a burned valve and maybe a screwed up head. I got an old head laying around, it was running well when I last removed it, but it looks all covered in carbon. What is the correct procedure to resurect it? This will be a temporary solution until we can get new heads.

My way:

Leave valves in, media blast/sandblast combustion chamber, flycut head to desired depth to match the cc of the other head (and to get a smooth sealing surface, something that should be done to the other head too) Then lap the valves in lightly. You can blast the valve heads too if you like. Just not the seats or valve sealing surfaces.

Temporary solutions sometimes end up being permenent.
