Better yet, get Earl Scheib to do it (that's a US chain of low-cost auto paint shops).

Trust me, there will be less "pain" if you hire it out.

The thread reminds me - last week I visited the local auto parts shop and there was a guy buying 15 of those little aerosol touch-up spray bombs. After he left the counter guy said "That's his second trip in here today. The guy wiped out our stock and is down to 'colors that are pretty close'".

We will have what i call a rolling restoration. Its to be done on the mega cheap & needs to be slotted in around house, kids job etc. Therefore small areas at a time when time & money allow, whilst still ' on the road' I would like a better finish than spray cans. I understand the most important is the rust removal & prep. Just need a consistant & simple painting method.. waffle over !

Place like Earl Scheib or Maaco can do a decent job for about $300. The important thing is you do the bodywork CORRECTLY and prep and strip the car. I have a page on my 77 Bug site for prepping the car.

i was thinking just base.....but you actually prove my statement to be true....Nason makes a "decent" single stage, as does dupont, and many others...they can be had for the mentioned 300, but that does not include materials other than the "color"....(no primers, paper, etc.) JT

...no s*it man, my boss showed me a little box the other day he had just picked up of tape and sandpaper....little damn box... and I know what s*it costs.... still I was almost as shocked as he was at the $287 that it set him back. BTW we primarilly shoot only Glasurit where I work now, and it definately ain't cheap....but it doesn't wash off with the pressure washer either
