67 VW bus idle problem

Hi all !! It's been a long time. My bus has been sitting doing nothing for almost 2 years. Took it to the AutoUpholsteryCompanyFromHell and after he screwed around with it for about a year before finishing the most HORRIBLE panel replacement you could ever imagine. He had it for so long because I was in NO HURRY AT ALL .. I bought the door and side panels as a kit and then had this clown cover them. I will take pictures before I get a professional to fix the mess. I shouldn't have paid him but I would have strangled him if I stayed in his shop another minute. I don't know how someone with an upholstery business could do such a horrible job of covering and installing the panels ... I didn't expect it to look like it came out of the factory looking the way it does, after all, the color of the PLETHER is ORANGE but it looks like I did it myself .. YES .. that bad !! I also bought one of those headliner kits and new sun visors but NO WAY would I let these people ruin them by installing them .. BTW .. Hope you are sitting ... He wanted $700 to install the headliner ... That is really funny if you have ever seen how the headliner is precut to the exact model. My bus sat for a year once long ago and when I turned the key after pumping the a few times and it started right up ... BUT THIS TIME .... It had breaks when I left it ... Had NONE when I picked it up so I PUSHED IT to my mechanics shop around the corner for brakes, a minor fuel leak and some other stuff. Picked her up last night and got 4 new tires.

Brought her [Molly] home yesterday ... getting her pretty for the Bulli Brigade .. I guess that would be in November. I'm hoping that a VW is a VW is a VW when I ask about this problem. Seems like I had it once before and it was a wire that came off or was loose somewhere. I have a mechanic for fixing easy stuff .. things I should be doing myself sort of stubborn when I make a suggestion ..

HERE IS MY PROBLEM ...

The second I take my foot of the gas, the bus stalls and even when moving some, when I take my foot off the gas and move it to the brake pedal, the lights come on letting me know that the engine has died. At the traffic light or stop sign or the end of my driveway I starts right up and as long as my foot is on the gas pedal, the clutch depressed or out of gear, the engine keeps running and idles exactly as it should .. ALSO .. every now and then my radio/CD player shuts off and comes back on .. I mention that ONLY because back in the long ago I had what seems like the radio did the same thing .. The radio does that on off thing when I am moving, not just when the bus has stalled.

Could the two things be related ??? Or ... could it be I just need to adjust the idle ?? I don't even remember where I do that .. but I have TheBook !! If I am remembering correctly, when this happened in the past and I called a mobile auto-electric guy, he fiddled with a wire in the back and the problem went away .. I am probably wrong, even though I think I am not. I should write down EVERY SYMPTOM with it's CURE .. VWs are so quirky.

Now what are you doing in Apopka ? I spent a week there years ago but it seemed like a year. Bad stuff was happening there all the time.

Glad I could help...

Looks like the engine could use a thorough checkup and tuneup too. It doesn't sound half bad though, well worth keeping alive.

I just learned of a delay in another big side job project that would tie up my garage for a long time once it gets here, I have a 3-4 week window maybe where I could work on your bus at my house. Whenever you feel like getting some basic stuff done.

Oh yea your interior guy must have started sober and got more and more drunk as the work progressed :D Hard to believe all the panels came from the same hands. Looks like some of the panels may have had moisture warpage. To nip that in the bud, you should pop them off and make sure there's a sheet of plastic between the panel and the metal frame etc..

I like your bus. Makes me miss mine SO BAD. I have to have another one some day. Maybe my boss could donate a Porsche 6 cylinder engine for it, LOL. Yea right.

I thought the British had the right idea, when they get to about 15 send them to a Private Boarding School or India and get them back when they are civilised about 25!. Just joking. couldn,t do without them.
