From reading your replies to various threads, it seems your best advice is "take your car to a mechanic". Are you a Union guy of some kind? I think that this newsgroup is populated by those of us who aspire to be our own mechanics. To me, and many others, repairing your air-cooled VW is half the fun of owning it.
Perhaps you should solicit that type of advice elsewhere. And please do not hesitate to use your shift key properly as well. It works similar to a clutch. You just need to punch it while you are switching into "high letters", and let go when rolling towards a stop light ... I mean ... the end of a sentence.
