Gas or Electric -- Engine Fail Question

Jul 01, 2003 2 Replies

Howdy.

I haven't touched the engine just wanted to get some thoughts before hand.

Driving down the street, one of our bajas started acting like it ran out of gas. Limped it into the station and filled up.

No start. - Maybe one fire then dead.

I'm guessing this is a fuel (line plugged, bad filter, bad pump) or electrical (coil only -- wires, cap, rotor, condenser are all new).

Am I going down the right diagnosis road?

The engine is ready for an overhaul... would like to limp it till tundra time.

Pull the top of the carb off and see whether the bowl is full or not.

My experience with those symptoms turned out to be a bad coil. If I could get it to run, it'd only keep running by keeping it above 3k RPM (Long enough to get into a parking lot).
