Gone for 5 years - what happened to prices????

.................60's & 70's muscle cars are very popular with the middle-aged crowd. More so every year for awhile now. And then there's the old farts who spend $20k for a Harley and never even figure out how to set the timing or change the oil. The ACVW enthusiasts are a vanishing breed it seems with fewer and fewer vendors selling to fewer and fewer owners every year. The fact that it's only a rewarding hobby for those who are willing to work on them is a big hurdle for most people nowadays. It hasn't been a dramatic decline in any of the last several years but is slowly and steadily happening. I'd say that there isn't very much appeal for them with the teenagers and twenty somethings either who are usually more interested in driving a re-chipped Civic with a ground effects kit and coffee can sticking out the back end. I don't care too much about the popularity thing as long as I can keep driving mine but it will have a bad effect on the price and availability of parts, eventually.

BTW.............I've been here for six going on seven years and I remember your name but that's about all. Are you going to stick around this time..........lol

Hi all! Chris (formerly from Miami, currently in Fortaleza, Brazil)

See some familiar faces, Jan, Bill and Busaholic. What happened to John, and to Eric (and Allison)?

I'm flying up to the states in a couple of weeks, and was considering selling the old '60, but... what happened to prices? Can it be that cars that were 10K are about 3,000 now? Or am I missing something?

Jeez, I've been out of the loop too long :-(

Good to see familiar faces.

Good to be remembered. I thought maybe John H. had taken to raising mice.

I thought you would have hopped the pond years ago, and I didn't recognize Kidd with the new nick. Uhhh... since when is it Kidd Andersson? Pure coincidence?

' Both are nice, but I still can't understand the price drop. Oh well, such is life. I never considered the car an investment, had just hoped it would have appreciated.

I am currently looking for a pre-68 Type-II, though down here they're a bit rare (at least the variety that you'd even _think_ about driving, never mind restoring).

I thought there were a bunch of shitty mechanics in the states, but here...

I bought a bug a couple of years back, and went to a couple of auto-parts stores to get a thermostat. Told it was a dealer item. Went to the dealer... Happened to be served by the parts manager who, when asked for the T-stat, told me: "Sir, are you aware that your Volkswagen is air cooled?"

Ya can't make this stuff up. Reality is too funny.

Thank you Chris :)

On my birthday, May 4th, we had a bit of a birthday dinner with all my best local friends present, and after we had finished eating I finally made it "official" by proposing to her in public. Buncha roses, nervous speach, dropped on one knee, popped the big question, held my breath, got the answer I wanted, gave the ring. Everyone at the bar went "aaawwwww" and started applauding. I hadn't noticed that there were other people around too besides our friends. :) Then we enjoyed a couple of glasses of bubbly drinks and moved on to the good stuff for the rest of the night. Yes, Cuba Libre for me ;)
