Ignition Noise Picked Up by Radio

Is there such a thing? In general there's little point, because the sensitivity of your radio is already as good as these things can get (within a factor of 2-3). If your radio has poor sensitivity, then it would probably be cheaper and easier to replace it.

The problem with an amp at the antenna is that it has to be a wide band amp which means that it works from 0.5 to 108 MHz (which is TOUGH!) and it will still be amplifying both signal and noise. So your radio is still responsible for sorting out the signal from the noise. In the end, there's usually little advantage.

And if it didn't get power, you'dd receive neither AM nor FM.

Is there any fancy diagnosic stuff you could use, like an oscilloscope, to test the quality of the power? Just another random thought...

Do you mean the quality of the 12V power? If so, sure. If you mean the "quality" of the RF power, then that's a pretty broad question with no simple answer.
