James Bond Impressions...Aaargh

Ive got a 1981 VW transporter / camper 2.0 aircooled (cu engine?) Driving home from Liverpool last night I suddenly noticed that i could not see any of the six lanes of motorway behind me. HUGE clouds of white smoke.

Pulled over / stopped engine etc and i found oil coming out of the exhaust. Checked the oil level and it was roughly on the minimum,as I was only about

300 yds from a services I started the engine up again and pulled into the services. Engine started fine and ran as normal, no pops of bangs etc. As I pulled round the right hand bend into the carpark the smoke stopped??

I stopped the bus and checked the oil level again, same as before, so i topped it up back to 3/4 to the max and started it up again. no smoke.

As i pulled out of the services car park long left hand bend, HUGE clouds of smoke.

I called the RAC and got a tow home.

Im guessing ive split an exhaust valve stem seal on the right hand bank of the engine??

Any Advice greatfully received, as ive now got to use my souless astra TD

Many thanks

Ben
