It will ride like a stagecoach and handle like hell. But it will look "kewl" and that's all some people care about. I saw some guy riding down the freeway in a slammed Bug and all I could think of was that I hoped he was wearing a hernia belt because of the way that Bug was bouncing.

I prefer the stock suspension, but little 13" wheels and 205/60-13" tires. :-) I had that on my 76 Type 1 and my 66 Type 1, the handling was very good and the comfort wasn't too bad. I did not care about the accuracy of my speedo at that time, but it felt faster too! :-) JMHO later, dave

Surely if you use dropped spindles & associated hardware, you get same ride quality and geometry. but *in the weeds* ?

It doesn't have to be rough though. I've just lowered the front of my 72 camper using the Red9Design kit. The ride is as smooth as ever and the steering is much better!

a lowered bug, that is "tight" will handle like a dream on the twisties...add some fat ass swaybars and gas shocks, and you could jar the fillings out of your teeth(like my bug actually) but it will take anything a curve can throw at it... J

Yep, that is the way my bug handles now. Very tight in the corners and the ride is pretty smooth. I have not put the sway bar back on yet as I am going to order a new mounting kit for it. I need to take a pic of the new ride level. I did not go super low, just leveled the front and rear with just a little more in the front. My tires are now just a couple inches from the bottom of the fender. My tires stick out about one inch past the fender edge all the way around the bug. So I did not want to lower it to the point that it would rub the fender. I installed a cheap set of Gabriel Red Ryders ($10 each) and they added about and inch to the overall stance of the front.

Now my last problem I need to fix it the tight steering. I am hoping it is not the steering box. I am going to adjust it as it my now be tight due to the previous condition of the suspension being very sloppy. The steering has always been easy till I redone the front end. Now I am wondering what made it so stiff to turn the wheel?
