need Help

I have a 1972 VW Beetle. Recently the Generator light is On and I'm unble to charge the battery. When I jump start the vehicle it runs and stays on. What can be the cause. Is it Electrical or the generator is not working how can I check if is.. ?

All this started when I down shift the gear to avoid a collition, then the Gen light was ON. where can I check if a wire connecting to the Gen got loose or disconnected.

Please help.. Living in California you need a car and now I'm short on my bug.. Thanks rob.

Look on the front page of my web site for: "How do I test my Generator?" All you need is a multimeter.

Speedy Jim's site is a great reference. I had an issue last year with my gen light. I finally found the brushes needed to be replaced. They looked fine in the holders because they had plenty of meat left to them, but they were both cracked. Good luck.
