New to group

Hi all. As of today I am a proud owner of a Marina Blue 1971 Super Beetle. I bought the following car

was just as advertised. Understandably the owners were sorry to see it go, but they needed the space. I have owned several other bugs in my "former life" in Canada. 1970 beetle, 1973 beetle and 1974 super beetle. Unfortunately, they were daily drivers (except the 1970 which died a premature death due to total stupidity) and died because of rust. This one I expect to be buried in :-)

Very sweet ride. OK, I just gotta know....Did the lovely lady in the first photo age as well as the car? Anyway, it looks like a very nice bug. Congratulations!

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet the lovely lady, just her husband and son. They were so sad to see it go though.

It's funny, once you tell people you got an old bug, all of a sudden everybody has a bug story. I was telling one of my wife's colleagues and he said to me "you are in luck, I'm a Volkswagen mechanic" He will eventually be sorry he told me that :-)

Nice Ride! I believe in EU it is called "Baby Blue" When looking at your engine bay, (Rich made me look) I see that you have an adition on your carb I was refering to a couple of weeks ago. (little disc left to carb) (Now) I know it is designed to keep the car from a sudden deceleration when you take your foot of the trottle. Made me wonder what I was missing then. Is it a 31 PICT-4 carb?

Yes, that is my first job. I also detected a small leak between the fuel pump and the filter, so the line will have to be replaced anyway. I just found out my wife's friend is a former VW bug mechanic and am going to have him come over and look over any problem areas.

I will have to get back to you on the carb. I believe everything on it is stock.

He is an aircooled mechanic that's for sure. He worked as a mechanic to get himself through school, but that was 30 years ago, now he's a scientist.
