On a 1971 Type 3 Squareback is this the same engine that is used in the rear enigine bug/beetles? If so, are there aftermarket parts for this engine? Thanks Jennifer

Yes, there are parts available. Look for local VW Part Stores.
Similar engine. Most engine accessories are different from Beetle type.
