oil temperature and pressure gauges

Apr 21, 2005 3 Replies

I have a 1192cc engine in a 65 bug.

Would it be a good idea to install oil pressure and temperature gauges?

If so where should the sensors be installed?

What are the acceptable temperature and pressure operating ranges for each?

thanks in advance!

With a stock engine it really isn't needed. You can buy a t that fits where the current idiot light oil pressure light switch is. For oil temp use a dip stick sensor.

Thank you for the info on the sensors.

does anyone know the acceptable oil pressure and temperature ranges for the 1200 cc engine....

i know the pressure sensor comes on between 2-6psi per the big blue book but by then the damage is already done....

thanks

Depends on a range of factors, but 25 PSI @ 2500 RPM is OK. (So at 500 RPM, might be 5 PSI.)

Max oil temp usually runs around 90 - 100C on a hot summer day at highway speed.

None of these numbers are carved in stone...
