OK, I'm glad that you cleared it up for me that it would not bother you if a family member of yours had been in an accident and their life was hanging in the balance and then they died from that because the hospital staff was too busy treating an ILLEGAL immigrant to be able to treat your family member who was NOT an ILLEGAL immigrant and who had been paying taxes to fund the system that just saved the life of the ILLEGAL immigrant while they died in the waiting room. You're a really forgiving guy. I'm not.

All "het up" about? Huh? Hell, if it's so dangerous to ride without a helmet then I'd more likely DIE from it than become a vegetable. The helmet would increase the likelyhood that I'd survive (as a non-productive member of society.) Anyway... I'm not all "het up" about it at all. I couldn't care much less than I do now. I don't ride my motorcycle that much and when I do I wear a helmet and it doesn't really bother me. If they said I didn't have to then I might not sometimes, but in the meantime I'm the last guy you'll see in a protest march/parade over helmet laws.

................This is a difficult issue to address without getting distracted by several secondary issues that come into play. I'll try to stay focused:

............If I was running a regional trauma center like DCMC, I'd have a couple of those medi-vans nearby ready to immediately cart away those people with minor, non-life threatening problems to one of my walk-in clinics that hopefully would be closer to where the patients live anyway. For those who are repeat offenders for coming to the ER with a minor ailment after being encouraged to take their prior problems to a neighborhood walk-in clinic, I'd start transporting them to a walk-in clinic that was as far away as possible from where they live. If they still insisted on showing up at the ER whenever they didn't feel good but could still drive to and then walk into a neighborhood walk-in clinic, I'd then have my most inexperienced staff immediately start a couple of IV's with 16 gauge needles and without any xylocaine to make them more comfortable and then I'd roll them into a room where a dozen others were trying to remember why they really didn't want to go to a walk-in clinic either. Motivation is key.

My mistake. I must have misread your post on that subject. Your approach sounds entirely reasonable to me.

See? I told you we were on the same page! I nominate Tim to be Surgeon General!!!!!

................They could just as easily be too busy treating a natural born American. S*it happens. Medical people have to stay focused on treating everyone who is sick and never get so sure of themselves that they think that they can figure out who is deserving and who isn't. You really don't want to be judged by a doctor or nurse or technician before receiving medical help. It would give more power to them than they could probably handle.

Don't get me wrong. I didn't mean it should be up to the doctors or hospital staff. Ideally they shouldn't be forced into making a decision like that because there would not be any illegal immigrants there to be "cutting in line." I find it hard to believe that

*anyone* would have a "s*it happens" attitude if they found themself in the scenario I described. But you do talk tough, Tim. Reminds me of someone else. :-)

..............I don't know who I remind you of but I'm just jaded from working in hospitals for over thirty years I guess. I did take my 20 year old daughter to the ER where I work in the middle of the night two or three months ago. It was interesting to pretend that I was just another concerned parent while they worked her up for the severe abdominal pain that she was having. The ER doc came to me and told me who the general surgeon on call was if she needed surgery and I immediately blew my cover by telling him that I wanted someone else who wasn't on call and that I'd be calling him myself. Fortunately, her CAT scan was negative and she didn't need anything more than a pain killer and an antibiotic prescription.

A wise man once said: "Make them work to get their money from you.... Talk tough John......you're pretty good at that."

....................Yeah........what 'he' said.

My Puma is 45 1/4 inches high and I might add that I still have air in my tires. The VA has been great to me.

kinda....yeah.....its like choosing a career....some choose for the love of a certain field, some choose based on what they can make, money wise....the person that *chooses* a lesser paying job because they "like" it should not complain about others making more....or something...

Then there are the poor bastards like me who is doing what he likes and making okay bucks. Damn the luck.

it is very good luck John...congrats....i too do well(relatively) and really enjoy my work(notice i didn't say "job").....i actually make out better than many of my "highschool" friends that spent many years in college while i was out making a "career" of what i love doing....i'm all good...im not rich, not flat broke, and very happy with my life....

Well, The answer is to go to Mexico, obtain citizenship there, then become an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

In Like Flint!

See how easy that was????

one small step for man,..... One giant leap for attorneys.

*coughcough* While I was absolutely determined to never speak another word here, I can't help myself. A, funny post. B, the expression is "In like Flynn" as in Errol Flynn. Glad to be of service. Back to lurking.

K.

Does that work ? I wouldnt want to be an illegal immigrant, but its interesting to think it would be that easy. What would happen if I was found (and how could I be found out )to be living there illegaly ? just deported ? or what ?

I allways wonder why we have so many illegal's here. Why dont they just get sent back ? They must have to surface from time to time - medical issues, speeding fines etc.

If you can evade the cops and deportation for 10 years without getting caught, and can prove it, you suddenly become a legal resident. Weird huh. The longer you commit the crime, the closer you get to the crime being wiped away and becoming legal.

Maybe you should double check that with the immigration authorities. That's what I learned years and years ago.
