Pinging

I buy the best gas , but it still pings. Besides retarding spark, what is one to do? Bush says that he does not need approval from the U.N.to wage war.& he didn't need the approval of the voters to become president either, did he?

Pinging can be also caused by too hot an engine. This is why EGR was put on. Oxides of nitrogen [NOx] is formed when combustion temps go over 2500 F. Also you want to check your distributor and make sure the centrifugal advance isn't rusted and frozen in the full advance position.

still in primer

Air leaks, dirty carbs, lean jetting all can cause spark knock, At least we don't have to hear about sex in the White House, and bombing a nation at the height of an impeachment.

Just fer laffs -

Back in the sixties, in a 409 chevy engine 2x4 with 12.75:1 compression, we used to fill 'er up with Sunoco 260, then throw a quart of naphtha in the tank to make the pre-ignition go away.

Nuff torque to lift the front end of the 62 Pontiac convertible off the ground at stop lights!

Why'n'cha try the naphtha if nothing else works?
