I should know better. I've been fighting with electrical gremlins for a year now. Went through and replaced the ends on every single wire. Cleaned up the connectors of every connection.....but one. Where the fuse meets the fuse panel. DUUUUUUHHH!! Amazing how well the lights work once one hits the fuse panel with some sandpaper. Grrr. Back to basics. :::hangs head in shame::: On the bright side...I can sell the new wire loom I bought and get new running boards:)

The cure for the low quality brass connectors used by VW is to replace them with higher quality tin-plated connectors. For the fuse block the standard fix was to remove it from the vehicle, get rid of the corrosion with an acid dip then plate the connectors with tin or solder. This same process is used (today) with circuit boards and hobbiest plating kits for that purpose are commonly available. One brand name is 'Tennit,' available from most electronic supply houses that cater to hobbiests.
