Re: beetle valuation?

I almost drove one of my Bugs to Ohio for my 25th HS reunion (from TX)... but I wanted to get the carpet in it first. I would imagine it would sell fairly well up there... but I'd have to have already placed the ad in the paper.

Hey Seth,

What you're supposed to say is, Of course it's gone up in value! I keep getting offers on the street for it and notes under my windshield with offers! You interested? How much money you got?

Part of the value of something is how much value *you* place on it too.

And, like was mentioned earlier, something is only worth as much as someone else is willing to give for it. No more, no less.

This is why I'm not a salesman, replies like that are the LAST thing to pop into my head. Being more suited towards the technical mode of thinking, my pea sized brain starts hunting for the most accurate answer.

Well by that measure no one's got enough money to buy my bug. ;) As poor condition as it's in right now I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Drove for a few miles this morning with an absolutely amazing looking convertable (early 70's, owner said it was original paint), is there ANY better feeling than sitting at a stop light, leaning out the window and chatting with the owner of another beetle?

And when the inevitable question came, the best I could come up with was "uh, not that I've noticed". ;)

You're absolutely right. Mine looks like a piece of crap right now, but it has tremendous intrinsic value *to me*.

But everything and everyone (usually) have a price. If someone offered me ten grand for it the way it sits right now, I'd take it. You bet. That gives me plenty of resources to go find another one, almost anywhere in the USA, that would meet my requirements.

Of course, I've been a long supporter of sponsorship. Give me money and I'll put your name on my car. ;-)

Rob...

You laugh... sponsorship... we just bought a 1973 Thing... on the low side of market value...

We didn't sponsor it... he didn't sponsor it... we're the car's foster home... he doesn't have room for it... he comes and visits it...

And when we're done it goes back to the parents.
