I have a 74 super beetle with a bum temp switch on the aircleaner housing. Without this piece I cannot get the hot air inlet system to work. I am having issues with carb icing in cold weather, and if I drive it long enough to warm the engine and then shut down for a few minutes(i.e. run in to the store to get more beer, etc..) the residual heat from the engine seems to warm up the carburetor enough that icing is not a problem from then on. My preheat system is working, but it doesn't seem like it is enough to keep the carb from icing without some extra help from the hot air from the engine.
CIP sells the whole aircleaner assembly with the switch for 70 bucks. Is there a cheaper fix for this problem? The hot air door holds vacuum, so if I had a good switch it should work okay.
Any suggestions? Anyone know of a vendor that sells just the temp switch?
