stock to svda on 79 FI question

Has anyone here ever upgraded a stock distributor on a fuel injected type

1 to a svda? I bought one from aircooled.net but the instructions didn't cover my situation. I have emailed them earlier today but thought someone here might have the answer now. Basically the old distributor had a dual vacuum advance with two vacuum lines going to it. The new one has only one place to connect a vacuum line. So do I plug one (which one?) or do they need to be connected to a "T" junction and consolidated into one line?

TIA,

Use the vacuum line with the smaller diameter hose; this is the hose which connects to the "outside" of the vacuum can. Just plug the other vacuum hose.

Do *NOT* attempt to use the stock timing mark (on the pulley) with your new distributor; the mark no longer has any meaning.

...................I'm using an Aircooled.Net SVDA on my L-Jetronic bug. Use the vacuum line that comes from the vacuum port that faces the fan housing. Plug the port that faces the rear. Set the timing with a strobe light at 7.5 deg. BTDC with the idle speed at 800 rpms and the vacuum line clamped. It'll work great.

Speedy,

Your comment doesn't make sense to me. If I don't use the TDC mark, what would I use to set the timing with?

Speedy propably means that if your pulley has a timing mark=20 (not the TDC mark) that the manual tells you to time with and because the timing requirement changed when installing SVDA,=20 you should not time the ignition with that mark anymore. If your pulley has a TDC mark, check that it really is TDC and time the engine 7,5 degrees Before the TDC.

As Olli said, use the TDC mark and set timing for 7.5 deg BEFORE TDC. The "timing mark" on your pulley (the notch) is 5 deg AFTER TDC; that's why you can no longer use it. Your pulley should have a "dimple" on the side facing you; that's TDC. Jim
