Type 4 Bus Timing Tip

If your metal timing scale from the factory has obliterated numbers from a ill-thought cleaning or a nasty belt break, you can re-draw 0* with this easy tip. Wrench the alternator pulley nut until rotor is at #1 notch on distributor body. Look in the round hole to the left of the center seam where you can see your flywheel. There is a little hole in the flywheel that will come into view at exactly 0* Find your timing notch on the inner pulley half, about 11 o'clock and make a mark exactly in line with it on the scale. For rough timing adjustment from zero, 1/2" along the upper surface in either direction will give you about 7.5* BTDC to the left, and 7.5* ATDC to the right. Colin
