upholstery from kit. Easy or hard to do?

I have no Uph. experience, however very Mech inclined. are they difficult, I'll buy the tools, providing I'm able to do the job.

Are the kits for front and back sets like some of the tins you can get for the motors, adjusting here adjusting there, to make the damn thing work.

Unless they are sent as part of the set, get yourself a pair of hogring pliers and box of rings. Then beg, borrow, steal, or buy for yourself a copy of the California Pacific video on interior restoration.

Easy if it is a quality stuff. I think I bought everything for my '66 Beetle from Sewfine back in the early '80s. I was pleased that everything fit properly and looked great after I finished the restoration job.

Are you only doing the seats? Then you will find out how easy it will be and the hardest part might be getting the seat out of the tracks! lol Take seats back and seat apart.....I think that is usually 2 nuts for the older models. Take upholstery off of only 1 seat keeping the other seat for reference. Try to be careful opening up those hog rings and metal tabs. (You will be removing the back release knob and trim and of course reinstalling them after you recover the seats.) If the metal springs are good in the seats, then protect the upholstery from the springs with the correct padding or covering and basically you will be slipping the new upholstery on. Secure with those hog rings, assemble seats together and reinstall in the car. I have heard of some people using thin carpeting to cover the seats.

good luck and have fun! later, dave (One out of many daves)
