I've been in Poznan several times ('94) great city, as are many in Poland. I've been in Jancowiece (near Poznan) on our way to Leba.... Loved it all the way and hope to go to Krakow some day. Great country!!!

In Polish "Garbus" (pronounced as garboos). The translation of this word is quite unusual because it doesn't mean "Bug". "Garbus" means sth like "humpbacked".

Tomek, he obviously meant "Kaftañski". When You leave the diacritics out it becomes "Kaftanski", and the family name will be Kaftanskis. And it definitely looks like a Polish name.

You are right. Original spelling is with a diacritical. We dont have that spelling in Spanish, so it got removed.
Is that the city the Germans used to call Posen? Any Warneke's around there?
