240 Drivers door stuck fast

Hi All,

Got a Volvo 240 1993 with the drivers door stuck locked.

Remote central locking was working OK then stoped. Replaced fuse number 8 and the remote works again for the other 3 doors - but not the drivers door - it wont even open with the key.

I'm thinking a relay or solanoid has blown but I'm unsure where to look.

On operating the door pin inside the car, the other 3 doors will lock/unlock.

Any ideas please

Many thanks Bryan

Is the key jammed as well? If you take the door panel off the mechanism is fairly simple, usually some WD-40 to clean out the old dryed lube and free up the mechanism followed by some machine oil or light grease will keep it working.

When you sit in the car and depress the central locking on the drivers door button does the central locking then work.

There is no relay or solenoid that will affect the driver's door. There's a mechanical problem in the lock, you're going to need to remove the panel. And with the door closed that's not very easy.

I had a similar problem recently when the AAA fellow opened our 240 when I left the keys in the ignition during a visit to Minneapolis. The AAA fellow inadvertently popped off the spring steel clip joining the key lock tumbler mechanism with the rest of the system and the connector steel rod fell "off". The key turned, the solenoid worked but the door stayed locked.

When I returned to Canada, the local CAA types used one of their spring steel door opener bars and managed to catch the locking mechanism and "trip it" to unlocked. Then the door opened normally. It took them several tries to do it and they needed a wedge to keep the window glass sprung out enough to let the "bar" into the door..

Otherwise, I was faced with removing the passenger seat to access the side panel and then removing it. It can be done, and it is simple. BUT it is time consuming and a PITA.

Try tthe door opening spring steel bar first - either AAA or a locksmith. If that won't work then start by removing the seat to access the panel.

For the other 3 doors yes - but not the drivers!
