'88 760 door locks

Greetings!

Has anyone worked on the electric door locks on a 760? (specifically 1988 model) I'm wanting to add an inexpensive remote control unit, but am unsure if it will work on this car.

Reasoning: When the drivers door lock is moved up or down, all others lock/unlock with it. If locked, and you open the drivers door, all doors unlock. The drivers door controls all others, but doesn't seem to be powered itself, i.e. it simply triggers the others.

So:

1) Is this correct? Is the drivers door manual only? 2) If so, can the electricals from a passenger door be fitted to the drivers to achieve this?

Thanks! Tony

Yep. The driver's door doesn't have a lock motor.

I pulled one off the tailgate of a 240. Had to make up a bracket or two, plus a linkage to the lock rod. Have a look at the passenger door to see how it all works.

IIRC there is no relay on '88 models, so you should be able to patch it into the wiring from the switch. TBH it's so long ago I can't remember exactly, but it's certainly possible. Mine triggers off the burglar alarm.

Just got back from the parts yard... with passenger door solenoid in tow!

Browsing around just now on swedishbricks.net gave me the info in hindsight. The driver's door is drilled and such, ready for the solenoid, just have to reverse it in the bracket (which it's made to do!!)

So it looks like the only real work I'll have is in wiring up the solenoid. Will do that when I'm ready to install the wireless entry module as well.
