760GLE Dashboard light - what is it?

Hi again guys,

Noticed a dashboard light come on in my 87/88 760GLE yesterday and I'm not sure what it's for. It come on twice - once for about 5 seconds and then once for about 1 second.

It sorta looks like a light bulb with an 'x' in the middle of it? From memory it's next to the battery light (to the left of it to be precise).

Is this the 'failed bulb' warning light or something I actually need to worry about?

Thanks in advance!

Andy.

That's the bulb failure warning, it monitors the headlamps, tail lights, and brake lights by comparing the current draw between the two sides. It is prone to false triggers due to dirty sockets, mismatched bulbs, or loose/corroded connections.

I should also mention that if you ever find that a light just won't work no matter what you do, the sensor is probably the problem. I've seen it twice, taillight on one side wouldn't work, turned out to be a cracked solder joint inside the sensor which is under the instrument cluster on a 240 and in the fuse/relay panel of a 740.
