'96 850 wagon tailgate repair?

Jan 16, 2005 3 Replies

Looks like something bad happened to my 850 Wagon in a parking lot.

The driver side lower light is broken and the tailgate has a large but shallow dent.

I bought a new tail light off of eBay. Is there a website that explains exactly how to swap out the old one and put in the new one?

Also any ideas on how much it would cost to get a tailgait dent repaired? (I'm in upstate NY)

It almost looks like you could take the inside panel off and pound out the dent from the inside.

Any advice/comments would be appreciated.

If the paint is ok they have paintless dent removal services, I've heard they work ok in some situations. If the paint is damaged then a body shop will repaint the whole panel, that's a few hundred bucks.

It'll be fairly easy to figure out how the taillight comes off once you have the new one. There's just a few nuts that are accessible from inside after removing the bulb changing cover and one floor panel.
