'96 Volvo 850 GLT cranking problems

Hi, I recently acquired myself a very nice Vovlo. Nice because it's a Volvo and more so that I've only owned cars in the 80s until now. Anyway, it has it's problems, not the least of which is that the car won't crank over at all. I know that this car has crazy electrical systems, but it still seems that there is main red lead to the starter from the battery, so as long as the key is sending power to the solonoid it should crank. Searching previous threads it seems it could be a problem with the alarm system and maybe an immobilizer. The Owners manual says nothing and doesn't list it, but the fuse box lists two fuses as for the immobilizer and I have the big extra horn on the firewall. The security LED doesn't ever flash and the alarm never goes off, even when I do the previously mentioned things to engage it, locking and holding the position etc.

Now I'll state the reason that it most likely isn't working and hopefully not be shunned for it. The car was in a collision on the front left, it destroyed the front left headlight, radiator and battery. Looking at my friends '93 850 GLT it doesn't seem like there is too much there that should be missing electrical wise. I did remove the fan and radiator, but find it hard to believe the car wouldn't crank without seeing that sending unit. I mean I expect it may have failsafes to not start in this condition, but I still expected it to crank.

Please let me know any thoughts, right now I'm thinking maybe the security system can't be reset because maybe a door sensor isn't working? The owner's manual mentions that it won't engage until all doors are shut, but then it doesn't mention an immobilizer either.

Thanks again, Chris Werner
