late 80's 760 in rather amusing video

A late 80's 760 GLE complete with 2.8L V6 engine goes into a battle royal with an Audi 80 and a Rover 416 of roughly the same vintage... The Volvo wins in braking at least, and by a nice margin.... and it hits the brick wall at 40mph not 30 like the other cars... and its the only one to drive off ;-) (the driver broke his thumb tho...)

Cars from the 80s #1 and #2

#2 has the high speed track test - VERY amusing.... This is why you never see old Volvo's in chase scenes in movies.

I can't find that video. I can't even find a "Cars from the 80s" section. What am I missing here? KennyH

AFAICS it's a clip from the BBC Top Gear programme, which had a light-hearted section where the three presenters each bought a car for under £100 and put them in competition. They had races, a crash test and other amusing comparisons. The Volvo was last at the final round, which was purchase price. 1 point was awarded for every pound saved from the £100 purchase price.

The two others had paid £50 and £70 (or something like that). The Volvo had cost £1, as the main dealer who took it in p/ex was going to have to pay to scrap it. So it won!

The crash test involved driving into a wall at 30mph. Unfortunately the speedo didn't work on the Volvo, so our hero actually hit it at

40+ and demolished the wall completely.

You imply that there is a 'serious' section to this daft programme.

I did that last night, but there was no picture of the volvo clip.

I went back tonight and it was there. Don't know why I couldn't get there last night. KennyH

You mean you think there isn't??? Its entertaining and has some very useful factual information presented in a way which is far from being a tech heads wet dream. It may not be everyones cup of tea but then some of us prefer coffee and there's nothing wrong with that...

Well you are as always entitled to your opinion (its what free speech is all about)... And I similarly am entitled to mine.

Happy 'punching'....
