Resevoir caps for 760?

Hi all,

I bought a new coolant tank cap. The only choice I had was "Green". What do the colours designate? My original one is a different colour.

I've also noticed that the fuel filler caps come in different colours.

What gives? ;)

Fuel caps are red for 4 star leaded fuel, Green for Unleaded fuel and Black for diesel fuel. There may be some correlation between colours and pressure relief value for coolant caps.

All the best, Peter.

Regarding the expansion tank caps, there's a green one and a black one. I have a black one in my 240. The difference has something to do with the pressure of the cooling system: black ones are marked "75 Kpa" and green ones are labelled "150 Kpa." I don't specifically know what the reason for this difference is, though.

FWIW, this car has a green gas cap for unleaded fuel.

The green cap replaces the gray cap that split at 150KPa~21.75566psi

Our '85 760T came (used) with a black cap, and when it cracked I learned from one of the gurus here it should have had a green one all along. Different pressures IIRC, but I couldn't tell you the actual ratings.

Dunno about the fuel caps.

The color denotes the pressure, wrong color, wrong pressure .Dont mess with the pressure its designed to work in with the electrics so if you have the wrong pressure cap you may run lean or rich .Hotter or colder .
