software fix to window switch problems?

I have a problem with my 99 V70 driver window not going up. After having the dealer and then one shop replace the bank of switches at great expense, I discovered that the problem would mysteriously solve itself after a random period of time. This has been going on for several years and it does not behave like a dirty switch - no periods where it works only some of the time. Since the switch is on the handle of the door with the problem window it is not a pinched wire. Plugging and unplugging the wires does not help. Several posts around the web allude to a software problem and one claims that one can reset the thing oneself but there is no link and no contact information.

Any ideas how to reset/reboot the thing? (local mechanics and dealer are useless and would just like to sell me a third new one).

Thanks so much. Did I mention that the rainy season has started here?

That software stuff only applies to the new body models, the "non Volvo shape" ones, i.e. S80, new style V70, S60 etc. All the windows (and the sunroof) are protected by an automatically resetting circuit breaker, but if this is a problem then all windows wouldn't work at the same time. There's not really much that could cause an intermittent problem with the driver's window (while the others are all working) other than the switch. Obviously, there's a connection between the switch and motor, and it's possible there's a problem with the motor, although I've never heard of an intermittent motor.
