Hi Zoran,

More than likely you have a Lucas electrical system. Ala Jag, Triumph, A&H, MG etc.

British Leyland autos, and apparently Volvos are just loaded w/ issues due to Lucas systems. Admittedly the Volvo systems are not as bad as some. Probably it is a relay, if not, reverse trace the harness from the faulty lights. It may be that a brittle piece of insulation has broken off and shorted out.

Best of luck,

What Zeke said or possibly a bad ground. When all four go on are they bright (like brake lights) or dim? You could make a jumper wire and make a temporary ground to see if that is what it is.

This is a very common problem in most types of vehicles, and is most often caused by a bad ground, usually near the rear harness connectors. Look for a wire coming out of the harness with a round terminal that is screwed into the body.

Thank You all ! The problem started when car was hit in rear quater panel on driver side after the accident only driver side tail lights worked. After a while I pooled all light bulbs out and cleaned conectors and still right side didnt work so after I was done I unpluged the main wire conection that goes to tail ligh and plaged back in and tail lights worked fine for two days. Now they dont work at all only if I press brake they all go on and they are all realy bright. also when I press the brake my blinker erows go on to any idea whay? I am thinking maybe i have a relay problem if there is one would you know where would be located? Thank You!

There's a sep[arate ground wire from each of the circuit boards on the rear lights. It is screwed into the body near each of the housings. From you description it is either absent or not connected.
