Volvo v40 Oil Light

I've had my volvo v40 1997 p-reg just over a week and after about 10mins driving the oil warning light comes on.The oil level is showing just below max,could it be the oil service light i've heard about?.So if i do a oil/filter change will this cure it? or could it be something more sinister? . MARK
