How do you get the caliper to retract while replacing the rear brakes?

You need a caliper retraction tool, which can be borrowed for free from AutoZone. It makes the job a piece of cake.

just make sure you apply firm pressure on it and turn in the right direction.

You need a tool that compresses and rotates the caliper at the same time. You can get it at Harbor Freight, VW, or borrow from Auto Zone.
