81 rabbit led problem

This is also a ground problem. Something else is using your blinker circuit as a means to find ground. If the led was bad it would not light up. I would think you have some kind of an open ground loop there. Your multi-meter is your friend.

could be... I think I need to replace the fuse box first... probably has something to do with the big melted hole in the middle of it... but then again that melted hole was there when i bought the car and the led problem was not... i think i got scammed by a mechanic the last time i took my car in to get serviced by someone in 1999/2000... hopefully when i get around to doing the wiring i can adapt a late model fuse block.

IIRC I seem to remember having to buy the turn signal relays from the dealers for the same symptoms that you are describing. Also the Hazard Switch can create a similar problem but I think the signals would not blink.

Right... i had that problem in a cabriolet, but the signals did not work... these work... i have bigger issues with the cabriolet to deal with at the moment, so i think i will put this one on hold... this is more of just an annoyance...

I'll do that... I had already purchased an extra flasher, cause I thought that was why they werent working for the past couple years... but turns out someone put wires between the flasher and the fuseblock... I removed those (one was loose was the problem) and put the flasher back in the fuse block... I will check out the new one and see what it does... if that doesnt fix it i will probably live with it for now.

If it is glowing then you got a complete path for current to flow so you must have a short to ground somewhere? Good luck finding it I've been working the electrical system on my 81 convertible for 4 years now and still about once a month some new problem will turn up. You might try pulling the turn signal bulbs one at a time to see if the led goes out. That would at least narrow the wiring down to about 1/4 it's original mess.
