89 Cabriolet Idle Problem

Jan 03, 2005 1 Replies

Hi All,

A friend's 1989 Jetta Cabriolet has a problem with its idle. When the engine is cold the idle lopes up and down, from about 600 RPM up to

1500 then back down again. When the engine is warm it still does it, but not all the time.

Any thoughts as to what I should check?

Thanks in advance - Note that email address is fake, please reply here. Cheers, Geoff Glave Vancouver, Canada

Sounds like Auxiliary Air Valve, Squeez the hose coming off it while it's cold see if the idel goes back to speed? also check to see the voltage coming out of the leads going to it.
