89' Jetta door problem

Spray penetrating lube inside of the door handles aiming for the latch. Work the handles inside and out, the lock button up and down, and pray a lot. Sometimes I beat on the door with the bottom of fist near the latch trying to loosen the latch. Of course a few cuss words might help since this might take

Or remove the outside screw, cut the door handles in the middle and break off the rear part of the handle so I have access to the latch. Then work the lube in there and try to free up the levers that you can see and work the lock button up and down, and pray a lot. If the springs in the latches are broken it will still be tricky to open up the door.
