How "doable" is this?
I'm tired of hearing the thing whine every time I start it up and fear the day it blows up on me..
Thanks, Steve

have the fluid flushed and refilled...should quiet it down a bit.
Well.. I'll come clean. It's not just the whine and the fact that it's going to go any day. BTW - the reason it's going on me is because I had a hose (clamp) bust on me, and I ended up having to "run it dry" for a brief period of time.
I really just want rid of power steering. I'd rather be all manual, and free up the work associated with that extra hydraulic pump.

I'm pretty sure it's rather involved. You'd have to remove the pump and get the right belt to use w/o it plus you probably have to actually replace the steering rack with a manual one.
That's about what I figured; 'cept I thought maybe the pump could freewheel - leaving the belt in place.
But the rack part.. hmm..
Anyway, thanks for the info.

Jim B.
No, of course the pump couldn't be a pump any longer. It'd just be a stub of a pump.
