The lights in my 96 Golf arent working properly. When my headlights are on, my dash lights go off as well as my tail lights. However, I can use my high beams by holding the high beam flasher. When the high beams are on that way the tail lights still work. Any idea what could be going on. I cant afford a mechanic to look at it so I am desperate for help. I cant drive my car after dark otherwise.
Did you check the fuses? Maybe the high beams are backfeeding the taillights which is why you get taillights while holding the highbeams on.
I would think that maybe the headlight switch is bad, but you need to check where you are losing the power at. Get a good repair manual (library maybe) and a test light.
