Chirping noise from front wheel - 2000 Golf

Jan 02, 2005 3 Replies

Last week my passenger side front wheel started making a chirping noise. It went away when I pushed on the brake, but came right back. After a while I went a few feet in reverse, and the noise left; until today. Same noise, also went away after driving in reverse. No noise now, but I expect it will return.

Any ideas what this is? Thanks.

Brake pads or worn rotors. Check rotors for thickness and ridge on edges.

On my passat I had a similar issue, and it turned out to be that the pins the front caliper rides on needed a little bit of brake grease put on them. After doing that, the noise went away and never came back.

I hope thats all it is. I have procrastinated doing anythign about it, and it hasn't gotten any worse. Thanks.
