I did a search on this topic but got no relevant hits.
I have done routine maintenance (oil changes, brake pad R&R) on Hondas and would like to do the same for a Eurovan. Are there any particular tips and tricks to know (gasket for the oil pan bolt, proprietary fluids, etc) about these types of routine maintenance?
If you have a particular web site you refer to I'd appreciate the URL.

There's a EV newsgroup at yahoo called "EV_update". Also there's a web site specfically for older (93) ev's run by a independent VW garage owner that got a good but not running EV cheap and found how little info is available as he slowly got it running. As far as changing the oil, many new owners find the plug impossibly tight and are unable to remove the plug. (hint, have a new one ready)

What year EV?
On my 2001 it is pretty straight forward, but you need to remove belly pan to get to filter. You then need a large socket...36mm I believe...to remove plastic cap that holds filter cartridge in place.
Thanks, Tony and JoBo. The longer story is: this is my cousin's vehicle, a recent model ('00 or '01) and he's getting the runaround from the guys at Spiffy Lube.

Yes, on the belly pan being shield between road and engine...but on the EV it is actually a metal pan.
Other than removing the pan, it is easier and neater than any other watercooled VW I have done oil changes on. I doubt, however, that Spiffy Lube would stock the filter. It is a cartridge type filter (as opposed to spin on) and I have only been able to get it at dealers or some internet mail order places.
That all said, do figure out if it's an '00 or '01 because '00s and '01s have different engines and different oil filters.
