Filling oil between changes

Hey there, I have an '03 Golf I bought in October of 2002. Have been keeping up with regular check ups, etc. It has 13,333 miles on it. My question: is it normal to have to put more oil between changes? I am using fully synthetic 5/30. the dipstick has oil right before and a little after the first "indentation"

Thanks, Michael

Yes, it is normal. Keep the oil level between the two indentions and you will be ok.

I have a 2002 Golf 2.0L. It took about a half quart before the first oil change at 3,000 miles. Since then, I haven't had to add any oil at all. I don't know whether the use of synthetic changes that behavior, though; I still put decayed dinosaurs in my engine.

You got a good engine so take care of it. All engines use oil... some more and some less than others. VW did have some problems around 2000 with oil usage but that's been solved now. And then we really didn't do too many engines for that problem. How would you feel about this? The other side of our shop does Chevy vehicles and there is a bulletin out to cover the concern of new Corvettes using oil at a higher rate. They are seeing them use oil at 1 qt per 500miles! YIKES, a $50,000 car with problems! There fix is to re-ring the engine. So VW wasn't alone.
