I have an odd warning light on my mk3 tdi Golf (UK model). After about 10 minutes of driving at 60mph plus, the engine management warning light comes on. If you dab the brakes it goes out for maybe 5 minutes, then comes back on. It only happens at high(ish) speeds and when the engine is hot. The diagnostic computer said it was a 'brake light switch improbable', I think, so I changed the switch, but it still keeps happening. Any suggestions?

Oddly enough, check your brake lights carefully for a duff connection. The engine ecu monitors the brake lights (not sure why, but there is a safety device that stops the engine revs increasing with the brakes on) and if they play up, it can generate a fault light. Am I imagining it, or are there 2 brake switches?
